24 Times Celebrities Were SO Cringe
As much as we tend to believe celebrities are on a whole other level than the rest of us, in a lot of ways they’re actually just like us.
They, too, have some pretty embarrassing, awkward, and overall cringy moments. The problem here is that because of their status, their moments will never go unnoticed.
Here’s 24 times celebs were caught doing something embarrassing.
Madonna
Madonna has many awkward moments, but most recently, Madonna apparently chastised a fan for sitting during her concert in Los Angeles.
She reportedly leaned forward and hollered to the person, “What are you doing sitting down over there?”
That’s not the embarrassing part, though.
Madonna: Politically Incorrect
As Madonna walked forward on stage to further approach the person, she realized the fan was in a wheelchair.
Suddenly, Madonna spoke up in a quick bid to save herself, “Oh, okay. Politically incorrect. Sorry about that. I'm glad you’re here.”
Madonna 2.o
Another Madonna moment for you—back in 2015, she posted a photo that appeared to be of herself to promote her album Rebel Heart.
She captioned the image, “I look Kewl…….#rebelheart”
No biggy right? Just wait.
Madonna: Photoshop
Later, TikTok user @ameliamgoldie spoke up and claimed that the photo was actually of her, and that Madonna had photoshopped her own head on top.
Yikes.
Ben Affleck
Back in 2021, Ben Affleck made headlines after a woman named Nivine Jay posted a TikTok claiming she had matched with Affleck on Raya—and online community for people to connect and collaborate.
The woman claims she “unmatched” him because she thought his profile was fake.
But obviously there’s more to the story.
Ben Affleck: Disappointed
Jay then alleged that Affleck reached out to her on Instagram, sending her a video of himself saying, “Nivine, why did you unmatch me? It’s me!”
While this might seem a little far-fetched—Jay did post the actual video Affleck sent.
Jennifer Lopez
Jennifer Lopez was shooting a clip for American Idol, and she took a camera crew to the neighborhood she grew up and went to show them her old family home.
A man was standing outside at the time and when Lopez showed up with the camera crew, his reaction was utterly embarrassing for Lopez.
Jennifer Who?
The man had no idea who Lopez was. She repeatedly tried telling the man her name, and informing him that she used to live in that very house, “for a very long time.”
Even after explaining her family and her childhood in that neighborhood, the older man still seemed either unaware or unimpressed with who she was.
And it was all caught on tape.
Bella Hadid
While Bella Hadid was caught on camera in an awkward conversation about sneaker turnoffs. During the conversation she repeatedly uses 90s slang when referring to men courting her as “homeboys.”
But it only gets more awkward.
Bella Hadid: A New Meme
While on a rant about what type of shoe she likes her man to wear, she trails off awkwardly, repeatedly saying “homeboy,” and then ends it with, “homeboy’s gonna like…get it.”
The last phrase in particular went viral as a meme.
Adam Levine
Adam Levine landed in some hot water back in 2022 after numerous women came forward with flirty messages that he had apparently sent them—even though he is married.
The women called him out online, sharing the messages—but that’s not even the most embarrassing part.
Adam Levine: Klondike Bar
The women posted the messages online and it opened up a roast.
Levine allegedly wrote things like, “Holy F. Holy F F. That body of yours is absurd,” and “F I’d do anything for it.”
Fans reposted the comments with captions like, “Me when I see a Klondike Bar.”
Iggy Azalea
There’s a clip circulating of Iggy Azalea’s 2013 infamous freestyle. She was asked to freestyle on the radio show Sway in the Morning, and she did—and it was awkward as ever.
Iggy Azalea: Trash
Azalea “rapped” with no beat, using somewhat stilted lyrics, and completely switching to a “blaccent” when she started the verse.
Fans relentlessly mocked the freestyle, and various memes circulated for a while afterward. Azalea herself even called the verse “trash.”
Liam Payne
Liam Payne also had a questionable interview moment when he was interviewed by Logan Paul.
Speaking about his first solo single, “Strip That Down,” Payne had claimed, “I think it outsold everybody within the band, and I was the last to go [solo]. And I never expected that.”
Sadly, his fans did not agree—and they went on to prove it.
Liam Payne: Sit Down
Fans quickly set out to prove him wrong, going as far as posting receipts that showed Harry Styles and Zayn Malik’s debut solo songs, along with other songs they released, that were far more successful.
He was relentlessly mocked for his claims that the band formed around him as the star.
That wasn’t Payne’s only embarrassing interview though.
Liam Payne 2.o
Liam Payne had another embarrassing moment during an interview when he talked about how he wouldn’t know what to say to Harry Styles if he saw him now.
He even added, “I'm like the antichrist version of what Harry is.”
Fans had a field day with that one.
Lil Bow Wow
Lil Bow Wow—who dropped the “Lil” and is now known just as Bow Wow—was a child rapper who entered the scene thanks to Snoop Dogg back in 1993. But his fame slowly died down as he got older.
Recently, he posted a photo on Instagram of a private jet, with the caption, “Travel day. NYC press run for Growing Up Hip Hop. Lets gooo.”
Not long after posting, a fan exposed the truth.
Lil Bow Wow: Liar, Liar
A twitter user then posted a photo of Bow Wow flying commercial, and captioned it, “So this guy lil Bow Wow is on my flight to NY but on Instagram he posted a picture of a private jet captioned ‘traveling to NY today.”
Oops.
Mia Farrow
Mia Farrow posted a happy birthday message to her daughter, Quincy, online—followed by a photo.
Except she mistakenly did what many people do—she forgot to crop her screenshot before posting, and what it revealed was downright embarrassing.
Mia Farrow: Crop Fail
Farrow’s photo showed the search bar on her phone where she had apparently searched, “Mia Farrow and her black children.”
Yikes.
Rita Ora
Back in 2014, Rita Ora tweeted that she would release new music if she got 100,000 retweets.
Expecting to surpass that number, Ora was shocked—and embarssed—when she saw what actually happened.
Rita Ora: Hacked
Ora’s tweet only got about 2,000 retweets. After discovering her epic fail she quickly deleted the tweet and in an effort to regain her dignity she retweeted with, “By the way my Twitter got hacked somebody is threatening to release new music I've worked really hard on. Nothing comes out until I'm ready.”
Kim Kardashian
Kim Kardashian also experienced a social media fail when she posted an old bikini photo of herself online and got less attention than she had expected.
Not only did she also take the, “I was hacked” route, she blamed it on someone in particular.
Kim Kardashian: Kids
Kardashian claimed her then two-year-old daughter North had posted it. She wrote a new post saying, “North posted this while playing games on my phone. Not sure why or how she chose it but I'm not complaining! LOL I deleted it so now reposting it myself!”
She still reposted the photo though.
Jonathan Cheban
Speaking of the Kardashians, family friend, Jonathan Cheban—who appeared numerous times on their reality television series—once posted a story on Instagram asking, “Should I go live later?”
The response was overwhelming.
Jonathan Cheban: Nah, we’re good.
Cheban’s followers collectively agreed — “no,” he should not go live. It was not at all the response he was expecting, and he was absolutely mortified at the responses.
Charli D'Amelio
Social media does it again. Charli D'Amelio had come across the hashtag, #HereForCharli trending on Twitter back in 2021.
Surprised, she tweeted, “Oh my goodness, you are all so sweet to me. You have no idea how much your kind words warm my heart i am so lucky to have you all by my side!! I love you bebs.”
But it didn’t stay up for long.
Charli D'Amelio: Wrong Charli
Unfortunately, D’Amelio quickly realized the hashtag was not meant for her at all. It was actually meant for Charli XCX, whose friend had recently died.
D’Amelio deleted the tweet, but it had already been seen enough to get backlash.
Jim Carrey
Jim Carrey had a cringy moment when he posted a two-minute-long video declaring his love for Emma Stone.
He even went as far as saying, “If I were a lot younger, I would marry you, and we would have chubby little freckle-faced kids. We'd laugh all day long and go camping, play Yahtzee, tell ghost stories by the fire. And the s-x..."
It only got worst the more he spoke.
Jim Carrey: Too Old For Emma Stone
Carrey went on to say, “And every day for the rest of your life, you would thank God that I was the appropriate age for you…… but I’m not, I’m 49.”
While the rest of the world was cringing, Emma Stone apparently laughed it off.
The cringy video can still be found on YouTube.
Ariana Grande
Ariana Grande has a lot of tattoos. So it was no surprise when she got one as a tribute to her song “7 Rings.”
But when she posted the tattoo online, fans quickly pointed out something terribly embarrassing.
Ariana Grande: Charcoal Grill
Grande’s new tattoo was written in Japanese characters. And while she thought it meant something else, fans quickly pointed out that the tattoo actually translated to “Charcoal Grill.”
To make matters worse, Grande is vegan. Fans had a heyday with this one.
Scott MacIntyre
In 2009, Scott MacIntyre became the first blind person on American Idol. This led to an extremely embarrassing moment with Ryan Seacrest.
After his performance, Seacrest met MacIntyre backstage and offered him something without even thinking.
Scott MacIntyre: High Five!
Just as MacIntyre was walking off stage, Seacrest approached him with his hand up in the air, reaching for a high-five.
He quickly realized that MacIntyre couldn’t see his hand, and he slowly started lowering it. Knowing that he was on live television at the time, Seacrest tried to recover by reaching to MacIntyre’s hand and saying, “Well, I’m giving you a high five.”
Garth Brooks
In 1999, Garth Brooks decided to launch an alter ego—Chris Gaines. He did so in preparation for a planned movie about the death of Gaines, to be called The Lamb.
The fictional Gaines was a rock artist—Brooks was a country artist. And Garth even appeared on SNL as Gaines, and then in a mockumentary for Behind the Music—also as Gaines.
If this isn’t confusing enough already, it get’s worse.
Garth Brooks: Huh?
By this time, people were immensely confused. Garth went ahead anyway and released an album as Gaines, before the film The Lamb. The album was titled, “Garth Brooks in...the Life of Chris Gaines.”
Not surprisingly, the album was a flop. The movie was then dropped entirely, and the entire PR stunt was a bust. His team tried to erase as much of it as possible, but photos continued to emerge, just making the whole thing messier.
Cee-Lo Green
CeeLo Green also tried a disastrous reinvention. Back in 2016, Green tried to rebrand himself as “Gnarly Davidson.”
Not only did he release a song with his new introduction, he also attended the 2017 Grammys as Gnarly—dressed in all gold.
Fans didn’t exactly respond eagerly.
Cee-Lo Green
When TMZ called him out on his all-gold attire and new name, he apparently told them, “That’s somebody else altogether, man,” really committing to it.
People still didn’t react well, so after releasing a second song about wanting to be with Beyonce, he apparently abandoned the Gnarly Davidson persona.
Faye Dunaway and Warren Beatty
Back in 2017, there was a massive mixup for a Best Picture award. Faye Dunaway and Warren Beatty were presenting the award, but had mistakenly announced the wrong picture.
Beatty had unknowingly picked up the wrong card and although he was confused when he read it, Faye spoke up and named La La Land as the recipient for the award.
Except no one noticed…at first.
Faye Dunaway and Warren Beatty
The producers went ahead and made their speeches and everything, until eventually a commotion on stage revealed that Moonlight had actually won Best Picture.
They then had to show the card to prove the mistake.
Steve Harvey
Steve Harvey also made a similar mistake. In 2015, he announced the wrong winner of the Miss Universe pageant—and it was super awkward.
Steve Harvey: Speak Up
After Miss Colombia was crowned and everything, Harvey, with his tail between his legs, had to speak up and own up to his mistake.
The crown was then taken off of Miss. Colombia’s head and transferred over to Miss. Philippines.
The looks on everyone’s faces were priceless.
Ashlee Simpson
Perhaps one of the most infamous celeb moments is when Ashlee Simpson was caught lip-syncing on Saturday Night Live.
After already successfully performing one song, Simpson went on to perform a second. But then something happened, and her reaction was probably not the best choice.
Ashlee Simpson: Wrong Track
When the wrong track started to play, instead of continuing to sing along with it, she just stopped singing and did a little jig as the band continued to play around her—with her voice recording playing along with them.
The moment went down in SNL history, and significantly impacted her career.
Charlie Puth
Charlie Puth did a Billboard interview that is said to be cringeworthy as a whole, but worst of all was when he used an awkwardly babyish slang term toward the end.
Charlie Puth
Puth apparently said, “I’m hungies!” and made his driver take him out for lunch. Those two words went on to haunt him as it was all anyone could remember from that horrific interview.
