Netflix Films To Watch For In 2025
The following films have been confirmed to be coming to the popular streaming platform at some point in 2025, though not all of them have an official release date. And, as with any film or television project, the possibility of them being delayed (or, more rarely, pushed forward) always exists. But then, anticipation is a large part of enjoyment…
Wallace & Gromit: Vengeance Most Fowl
Let’s start with a film that you can go and watch right this moment! If you’re not familiar with the Wallace & Gromit series, the comedic adventures of a man and his dog are delightful. Wallace, the human, is a lovable but bumbling inventor and dreamer. Gromit is his faithful companion who frequently gets his human out of trouble. What more do you need to know?
Back In Action
Another film you can go watch immediately! Just when you thought you’d never see another Cameron Diaz film, the Holiday and Charlie’s Angels star returns to the small screen in an action-comedy co-starring Jamie Foxx. Two former spies are pulled back into the world they thought they’d escaped and shenanigans ensue.
The Witcher: Sirens Of The Deep
Following on from Netflix’s highly successful Witcher series and the Witcher: Nightmare of the Wolf animated film, Sirens of the Deep promises to deliver all of the dark, epic fantasy that fans of the series have come to expect. Series actors Anya Chalotra and Joey Batey lend their voices to this animated feature.
The Electric State
March brings a sci-fi thriller from the Russo Brothers, famous for their definitive work in the MCU. Millie Bobbie Brown and Chris Pratt star in a story set in an alternative dystopian 1990s filled with robots. Brown searches the American Midwest for her lost brother.
Bank Of Dave 2: The Loan Ranger
The continuing story of Dave Fishwick and his community-run bank, the sequel follows the valiant Dave as he continues his mission to be a decent financier in a world of sharks. Payday loan lenders are the antagonists in this second installment that features the return of star Rory Kinnear alongside Downton Abbey star Hugh Bonneville, amongst others.
Fear Street: Prom Queen
Netflix had a huge success with the release of the frightening Fear Street film trilogy in 2021. Banking on the popularity of that series, Prom Queen is an adaptation of one of RL Stine’s novels. The film is directed by Matt Palmer and features a cast of young stars. Like its predecessors, Prom Night should be creepy and fun!
Frankenstein
A highly-anticipated film, Guillermo del Toro’s Frankenstein is a star-studded continuation of the beloved classic novel by Mary Shelley. The film follows Dr Pretorius as he tries to track down Frankenstein’s monster and continue the scientist’s experiments. Among the top-tier talent featured in the film are Oscar Isaac and Christoph Waltz.
In Your Dreams
A movie that promises to have its fair share of feel-good moments and tear-jerking scenes, In Your Dreams follows the adventures of Stevie and Elliot, two children who use magic to enter the realm of dreams in an effort to save their parents’ marriage. The MCU’s Shang-Chi, Simu Liu, is just one of the stars to lend his voice to a character in this animated feature.
Kinda Pregnant
We’ve all had those moments where a little white lie gets us in hot water (No? Just us then!). In this Tyler Spindel-directed comedy, Amy Schumer’s Lainy, jealous of her best friend’s pregnancy, starts wearing a fake baby bump. When Lainy meets the perfect man, she has to figure out how to spin her little lie so that she doesn’t lose everything.
K-Pop: Demon Hunters
Do you enjoy K-Pop? How about stories about demon hunters? Well, have we got a film for you! Likely to drop later in the year, K-Pop: Demon Hunters follows the adventures of a group of young women who spend their days singing catchy pop songs and their nights as streetwise demon hunters. And it’s a musical. What more could you ask for?
Nonnas
Vince Vaughn hasn’t been around much lately, but Netflix’s Nonnas might be the comeback vehicle he’s been waiting for. While Vaughn is known as a funny man, Stephen Chbosky’s Nonnas is a drama about a man who invests his inheritance in an Italian restaurant run by Italian grandmothers.
Plankton: The Movie
Proving that the popularity of Spongebob Squarepants will never end, Netflix is presenting a follow-up to their 2024 Spongebob movie. The tiny nemesis from Bikini Bottom is still trying to take over the world, and he runs into problems when his plans are stymied. Dave Needham directs this feature-length film.
Pookoo
Another animated film likely to cause as many tears as it does laughs, Pookoo follows the adventures of the titular character and his sworn enemy, a large and impressive bird, as they endeavor to save The Valley from destructive forces.
The Thursday Murder Club
The idea of hobbies turning into a full-time job is the basis of the hustle economy these days. But when the hobby is solving murders, maybe that’s not such a good thing. The Thursday Murder Club adapts the best-selling novel about a group of retirees who must put their skills to the test to solve a real murder. Pierce Brosnan and Helen Mirren lead a star-studded cast.
The Twits
Animation seems the perfect medium to adapt the weird and twisted worlds of celebrated author Roald Dahl. The Twits focuses on Mr and Mrs Twit, who run a dangerous amusement park. Directed by Phil Johnston, the movie will feature the voice talents of Natalie Portman and Emilia Clarke.
Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery
The details of this third Knives Out film are a well-kept secret, though we do know that Daniel Craig will return as Southern detective and bon vivant Benoit Blanc. Aside from that, all that’s been revealed is the all-star cast, including Mila Kunis, Josh Brolin, and Jeremy Renner amongst others.
Netflix Films That Might Hit Screens In 2025
These next films aren’t guaranteed to see the light of day in 2025, but there’s a good chance. They’re Netflix Originals, so they’ll definitely find their way to the streamer eventually, and relatively reliable sources seem to think they’ll be doing it this year.
Happy Gilmore 2
The original Happy Gilmore celebrates 31 years of being one of Adam Sandler’s best-known roles, so why not get a sequel out finally? Perhaps nostalgia will turn this into a huge hit, or perhaps Sandler’s comedic style will tickle funnybones around the world. Regardless, the golf club-swinging Happy will be returning to screens soon.
Havoc
Havoc was actually filmed in 2021 but has been delayed by reshoots and production difficulties. Director Gareth Evans has recently said that the film should be released sometime in the first quarter of 2025, so hopefully Tom Hardy fans will get a helping of his doing his action star thing on Netflix soon.
Untitled Noah Baumbach Movie
Is it ever too late to come of age? This untitled project, the details of which are still pretty scarce, seems to be about older adults doing just that: coming of age. The cast is a who’s who of Hollywood talent, including George Clooney, Laura Dern, Adam Sandler, and Isla Fisher. But apart from that, we don’t know much.
La Dolce Villa
Ready for a romantic comedy set against the backdrop of the Italian countryside? We thought you might be. La Dolce Villa will fill all your romance needs as a father finds love while trying to stop his daughter from spending all her money on a crumbling villa in Tuscany.
Madea’s Destination Wedding
Who doesn’t love a destination wedding? Just kidding. While an actual destination wedding can be a headache for everyone involved, it also has the potential to be a source of hilarity in film. That’s what Tyler Perry and his alter ego Madea are banking on with this next installment in the successful comedy franchise.
My Oxford Year
If the romantic background of La Dolce Villa’s Tuscany isn’t to your liking, how about Oxford in the UK? Sofia Carson is Anna, an American student living in Oxford who becomes romantically entangled with one of the hot local guys who seem to populate these kinds of films.
Peaky Blinders: The Immortal Man
Fans of the successful streaming series will be over the moon to see Cillian Murphy returning to the role of Tommy Shelby in this feature-length follow-up. The film began production in late 2024 and will see the return of numerous cast members from the post-WWI crime drama.
People We Meet On Vacation
2025 appears to be the year of the romance if this list is anything to go by. Best friends Alex and Poppy have a Summer tradition of vacationing together. This year, romance and drama are in the air. People We Meet On Vacation is an adaptation of Emily Henry’s novel and was filmed in both New Orleans and Barcelona.
R&B
The story of a professional escaping their daily grind and finding happiness in a simpler life will never get old, and R&B is dipping into that storytelling well. Romance and family find a young woman who escapes the Atlanta music scene to care for an elderly woman.
RIP
Matt Damon and Ben Affleck love making movies together, and the duo headline this crime thriller set in Miami. The discovery of a huge stash of cash prompts two officers to be wary of who to trust as news of the money spreads through the city.
Steve
Cillian Murphy’s second film on this list is somewhat different from his Peaky Blinders role. Described as a “comedy-drama”, Steve follows the story of a head teacher at a struggling college who must try to save his school while his mental health is declining. The film is based on the novel Shy by Max Porter.
The Ballad Of A Small Player
Another tried and true movie plot is the story of the unlucky gambler who accrues so much debt he has to go into hiding. The Ballad of a Small Player features Colin Farrell and Tilda Swinton through this harrowing tale. The troubled gambler takes refuge in Macau, hoping to avoid the people chasing him and his debt.
The Life List
After her mother passes away, Alex Rose takes a year off from her life to pursue the goals on her life list. Yes, it’s another romantic film, starring Sofia Carson as Alex. The film was delayed by the WGA and SAG strikes of recent years but looks to be ready for public consumption on Netflix sometime this year.
The Night Always Comes
Filmed in Portland, The Night Always Comes stars Vanessa Kirby as Lynette in this crime thriller based on the Willy Vlautin novel. Lynette’s need for cash causes her to call in some old debts, and perhaps enter into some new ones, to help dig her out of the hole she finds herself in.
The Wrong Paris
That’s Paris, Texas, not Paris, France, by the way. And that’s just the beginning of the shenanigans in this romantic comedy about a woman who thinks she’s going to the one, but ends up in the other. Miranda Cosgrove stars in the film about a woman whose dating show experience does not go how she expected.
The Woman In Cabin 10
You can basically tell from the name that this is going to be a creepy one. Kiera Knightly stars in this horror thriller as a journalist assigned to cover a luxury yacht launch that goes very, very wrong. Expect lots of atmosphere and suspense as the mystery of the woman in cabin 10 unravels.
Untitled Kathryn Bigelow Movie
Esteemed filmmaker Kathryn Bigelow returns to the director’s chair for the first time since 2017 with an untitled (as yet) political thriller. As a missile attack on the US is imminent, officials at the White House try to figure out how to handle the crisis. Idris Elba and Rebecca Ferguson are among the cast.
War Machine
Filmed in Australia, this sci-fi action film follows a group of special ops trainees who encounter something from beyond the Earth. The film was directed by Patrick Hughes and features Dennis Quaid, Stephen James, Alan Ritchson, and Jai Courtney in prominent roles.
The Old Guard Chapter Two: Force Multiplied
Given the success of the first film, it’s surprising that chapter two of The Old Guard took this long to get to screens. Greg Rucka, writer of the original comics, contributed a screenplay that sees Charlize Theron return in her starring role, and Uma Thurman is among the new faces to join the cast of this action-adventure.
By all accounts, Netflix is aiming to release this one in 2025—but many fans fear that with a production plagued by reshoots and delays, they'll have to wait a while longer.
