Book The Tickets
Some only think about going on an adventure when they're in a rut. We hope this list inspires you to book your flight tickets to places unknown. Traveling frees you and it is proved by these characters.
The Bucket List (2007)
Two men. Both terminally ill. One bucket list. Edward (Jack Nicholson) and Carter (Morgan Freeman) escape from the cancer ward to live life to the fullest before they kick the bucket. Skydiving, visiting the Taj Mahal, going on a Tanzanian lion safari, driving a stunning Shelby Mustang—they do it all.
Finding Joy
Sitting atop the Pyramids of Giza, they pour their hearts, and learn about each other's lives and regrets. The movie takes us to many countries in a span of 1 hour and 37 minutes, as they try to find the joy in their lives, one last time.
The Darjeeling Limited (2007)
After a near-death experience, Francis (oldest of 3) brings his brothers together to reconcile. They haven't spoken a word to each other since their father's funeral, which their mother, Patricia, failed to attend. What Francis doesn't tell his brothers (Peter and Jack) is that they're also going to meet Patricia.
Complex Themes
They're aboard The Darjeeling Limited, which takes them on a spiritual journey to several temples through towns and villages. Owen Wilson, Adrien Brody, and Jason Schwartzman's sentimental performances reveal the complexities of death and grief. And that, along with Wes Anderson's direction, got them a 7.2 on IMDb.
Sisterhood Of Traveling Pants (2005)
Friendship seems to be a big theme in this list so far. Lena, Tibby, Carmen, and Bridget are going to spend a summer apart from each other for the first time. One day they find a pair of jeans that fits all 4 of them perfectly. So, they decide to share it.
Four Narratives
Over the summer, Lena falls in love, Tibby makes a movie (and a new friend), Bridget has a fling at her soccer camp, and Carmen struggles to accept her father's new family. But they're always there for each other. Isn't it cool how all 4 actresses grew up to be sensations?
The Holiday (2006)
Okay so this is not as travel-heavy as the others, but it deserves to be here. This movie makes you want to visit England during the winter and live in a cottage after watching it. Iris lives in a cozy cottage in London and Amanda has a stunning, big house in Los Angeles.
Swapping Houses
And they decide to swap them. For the Christmas holidays, they plan to live in each other's houses in an attempt to get over personal heartbreaks and to get away from their day-to-day routines. In a good ol' Nancy Meyers movie, there are (obviously) romance sub-plots for both of them.
Comfort Film
The Holiday feels like warm comfort on a cold winter day. Iris and Amanda's wishes of escaping their mundane lives works—they find themselves 6,000 miles away from each other. And along the way, love. Also, it goes without saying that Kate Winslet, Cameron Diaz, Jude Law, and Jack Black make one brilliant cast.
Out Of Africa (1985)
Out of Africa, the 1985 film, stars the gorgeous duo Meryl Streep and Robert Redford. The movie takes you away to the vast landscapes of Kenya. Streep's character initially follows her husband to Kenya, but things don't go as planned, and her marriage falls apart. But…
Africa's Wild Beauty
She eventually meets the free-spirited hunter (Redford's character) who takes her on thrilling adventures to discover something new in her life. Watching this journey made us want to pack our bags and see Africa's wild beauty firsthand. It's an epic movie, which reveals that travel can be life-changing and inspiring.
Mr. Bean's Holiday (2007)
Mr. Bean in Cannes, France. You just know something is about to go wrong. And it does—right in the beginning. Because of Bean's antics, a father and son get separated at the Paris Gare de Lyon station. Bean, along with Stepan (the child), then goes on a journey to reunite Stepan with his family.
A Crazy Adventure
Along the crazy adventure, Bean misplaces all of his money and passport, he puts up a show to earn enough money that'll take both of them to Cannes, they get separated, Bean hitchhikes, somehow lands in a commercial, and it keeps getting worse. But at the end Stepan finds his family and Bean gets to sunbathe at the beach.
Eat Pray Love (2010)
Julia Roberts in Eat Pray Love hits right at home. The place Liz is stuck in, we've all been there. Admitting that you've lost your appetite for food and for life is not easy, but she is determined to find it again. To find herself again.
A Viral Phenomenon
She eats in Italy, prays in India, loves in Bali—all the while finding herself again. She has help, of course. But her journey of self-discovery was sensational. Although book adaptations are rarely well-received, Eat Pray Love went on to become a viral phenomenon in pop culture.
Lion (2016)
Saroo is lost hundreds of kilometers away from home and gets adopted by an Australian couple when he's 5. It has been 25 years since then, and he starts to remember his biological family's faces and what had happened to him. He soon starts to obsess over what they must've gone through after losing him.
A Long Way Home
With the support of his family and friends, he is able to locate his neighborhood in India. And he leaves to reconnect with his family. Based on A Long Way Home (Saroo Brierly's autobiography), Lion was a blockbuster hit and deservingly earned 6 Oscar nominations.
The Beach (2000)
The Beach is an adventure drama that explores the dark side of an unspoiled paradise. Leo DiCaprio's character, Richard, is a young American backpacker in Thailand who comes across a map leading to a secluded island with a hidden beach. So, he and a French couple set out to escape the touristy hotspots on the mainland.
Utopia? Or A Dystopia?
This movie is also based on a book of the same title. The 3 characters go through tragic events on this secluded island where outsiders are frowned upon. The Beach reveals that anyone can go through great lengths to protect their home. And that any utopia has the ability to turn into a nightmare real quick.
Last Holiday (2006)
Queen Latifah, as Georgia, unexpectedly finds out that she has a few weeks to live due to a terminal illness. So, Georgia maintains this scrapbook of "possibilities," detailing a better life that she wishes she had. And now that she has nothing left to lose, she wants to achieve that.
An Expensive Vacation
All the way from New Orleans to the Czech Republic, Georgia plans a luxurious dream vacation. She eats to her heart's content, redesigns her entire wardrobe, goes on adventures, and makes everyone around her happy. The movie reminds us to laugh more and love more—unafraid of being hurt.
Lost In Translation (2003)
Bob, an American actor, has come to Japan to star in an advertisement, but the only issue is: He does not know that language. Also, he's going through a serious case of mid-life crisis. Disillusioned and mopey Bob meets disillusioned and mopey Charlotte in the hotel.
Culture Shock
Their unlikely relationship blooms as they spend more time together, going around and exploring Tokyo. Sofia Coppola's film is a tender story about craving connection in an increasingly disconnected world. It also goes into the complexities of foreign travel and the culture shock one faces in a different land.
Mamma Mia! (2008)
Amidst the mess of having 3 potential fathers showing up to Sophie's wedding, you might forget just how beautiful Greece is in Mamma Mia!. Sailing through the crystal waters in the Skiathos and Skopelos islands, and the beautiful views from the Pelion are enough to get a one-way ticket.
New York Magazine's Brutal Review
When released, the movie became the highest grossing live action musical. In the UK, 1 in every 4 houses owned a copy of the DVD. It was a sensation, even though Brosnan's singing was compared to "a water buffalo" by the New York Magazine.
Thelma And Louise (1991)
We won't tell you much about the movie because it's best if you go into it blind. What we will say, though, is that Geena Davis' Thelma and Susan Sarandon's Louise are both lovable characters. They do a great job showing that women are more than shallow "nagging wives/girlfriends".
A Crime-Filled Road Trip
The crime drama takes you through Arkansas, Oklahoma, New Mexico, and also the Grand Canyon. If you want to take the same trip they did, you'll be driving 1,440 miles for 25 hours (without stopping). Do you have it in you?
The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel (2011)
The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel is an adorable story about a group of British retirees who decide to spend their golden years in Jaipur, India. They are drawn by the promise of a luxurious, affordable hotel, but surprise, surprise: The place is run-down and chaotic.
Coming Out Of Comfort Zones
Each character faces challenges but grows stronger, finding new friendships and opportunities in this new setting. Moving to India pushes them out of their comfort zones and helps them see life in a new way. The cast features Maggie Smith, Judi Dench, Dev Patel, Bill Nighy, Tom Wilkinson, and more.
Ticket To Paradise (2022)
A good ol' fashioned rom-com featuring none other than Julia Roberts and George Clooney. You KNOW you want to watch that. They play the role of a divorced couple who despise each other but are forced to be around one another for their daughter's wedding in Bali.
A Fun Watch
They think she is rushing into the marriage, considering she's only known her to-be husband for a month. So, they plan to sabotage and ruin the wedding. At the end of the day, though, it's a rom-com, so a happy ending is in the stars. It's a fun movie.
Under The Tuscan Sun (2003)
When Frances finds out that her good-for-nothing husband had been cheating behind her back and, worse—knocked up someone, she leaves. Her friend (played by the brilliant Sandra Oh) worries about Frances' mental health post-divorce and urges her to take a trip to Italy.
Taking The Leap
In Tuscany, Italy, in one way or the other, Frances has now bought a dilapidated house and starts to renovate it all by herself. After a lot of mishaps, she is able to make herself a home in beautiful Tuscany and its people. Sometimes, you just have to stop being afraid and take the leap.
Home Alone 2: Lost In New York (1992)
We don't know how Kevin gets stuck in these situations, but he is, once again, separated from his family. Most of you must've already watched this movie, but we include it for the few who still haven't. He's in New York and incidentally has to deal with the same burglars he fought in the first movie.
Classic Christmas Movie
Home Alone 2 did not do as well as the first one, but it still earned a whopping $359 million worldwide. Not everyone appreciates sequels, and this one does have a lot of mixed reviews, but it's a classic Christmas Eve movie.
Before Trilogy (1995–2013)
Before Sunrise, Before Sunset, and Before Midnight are minimal movies from Richard Linklater, starring Ethan Hawke and Julie Delpy. The first movie is set in Vienna as the duo spends the whole day together, exploring the city and eventually parting ways with promises of meeting again.
Stunning Vienna And Paris
Before Sunset is them, 9 years later, with regrets of not following through with their promises. Jesse (Ethan's character) is now a best-selling author of a book, which is about that one day in Vienna. They reconnect and rekindle, wandering the streets of Paris.
Conversations And Stories
Don't worry, we won't spoil the final movie for you. The Before trilogy has received excellent response from viewers. The minimality of the films and its focus on conversations and characters are highly praised. A fourth movie was in the talks, but Delpy mentioned that they couldn't come up with an idea everyone liked.
Into The Wild (2007)
Based on the non-fiction book about Christopher McCandless, Into the Wild follows him after he abandons his comfortable life to go on a journey of self-discovery in the wilderness. All he's looking for is freedom and a deeper connection with nature.

This is a fun and heartwarming story about two drag queens, Mitzi and Felicia, and a transgender woman, Bernadette, who set off on a road trip across the Australian Outback in a bus named Priscilla. Over the days, they face challenges that test them, but ultimately, it also brings them all closer.
Breaking Stereotypes
The movie has dazzling costumes and a banger soundtrack. It breaks so many stereotypes for a movie from the 1990s. The comedy is fun and not at the expense of any community; plus, the way they bond throughout their road trip is surprisingly warm and tender.
