Times People Exploded On Live TV

You Won’t Like Me When I’m Angry

Public personalities are often seen as beacons of inspiration, as they’re the kind of people who can usually keep their cool under all circumstances. But many of these instances of televised breakdowns prove that news anchors or sports stars are just like us in terms of temperament.

JCVD Is Tired Of The Same Questions

Movie stars are often honest about the fact that their least favorite part of the process is doing press. For martial arts star Jean Claude Van Damme, 30 years of being asked the same questions about his workout routine began to take its toll.

JCVD Is Tired Of The Same Questions

During a 2016 interview on the Australian morning show Sunrise, Van Damme began to revolt against the hosts asking the usual questions, openly remarking that they were “boring”. After which, he began to walk out, which if unprofessional, was slightly understandable.

Hurricane Hysteria

Television reporters on assignment are bound to run into a few hiccups, be it technical snafus or frankly, real-life characters. This was the case when MSNBC reporter Shaquille Brewster was on the scene in Gulfport, Mississippi to cover Hurricane Ida.

When in the middle of his on-air reporting, an angry-looking man suddenly appeared in the frame to angrily accost Brewster to his face. Looking on the verge of violence, the feed was soon cut off.

Soccer Hooligans Told Off

It’s well known that soccer fans are probably the most intense sports people in the world. Well, intense, or just maybe obnoxious, as evidenced in an encounter between a fan and footballer Sergio Ramos.

Soccer Hooligans Told Off

While giving a television interview following his team’s loss, Sergio Ramos was repeatedly heckled by a fan in the stands. Ramos, who could’ve been harsher to the fan, simply used the words “shut up” in response.

Reality Star Drama

The Real Housewives franchise is known for its high-drama “characters”, so it’s not surprising those kinds of hijinks would follow them outside the show. Star Teresa Guidice lived up to that idea during a television interview.

Appearing on Access Hollywood to promote the show, Guidice was badgered with questions about her husband Joe’s threatened deportation to Italy. Not wanting to take these questions, she eventually stormed off the set of the show, with her co-star Melissa Gorga left to speak for her.

Footballer Frenzy

Dan Marino’s triumphant career as the quarterback of the Miami Dolphins was the definition of an enviable NFL legacy. Yet that doesn’t mean as a man himself he didn’t have some moments where the cracks showed so to speak.

Once, while on-air as a host of the television show Inside The NFL, Marino made the understandable mistake of stumbling over his words. Not taking it well, Marino began to start slamming his fists on the table, creating a highly awkward atmosphere.

Good Evening Britain

EastEnders actor Danny Dyer made his thoughts clear on former British Prime Minister David Cameron during a 2018 appearance on Good Evening Britain. In fact, you could call his long string of words a full-on rant.

Angered by how the former PM handled the disastrous Brexit result of 2016, Dyer even went as far as to drop the classic British insult of “twat”. It seemed he was speaking for a good portion of the nation with his anger.

Well The Weather Outside Is Frightful

The winter is a lot of people’s least favorite time of year due to the extreme weather. So more often than not, television meteorologists have to be the bearer of bad news in the first quarter of the year.

A Grand Rapids television meteorologist was frustrated with how often his reports let down fellow on-air anchors during a 2018 incident. He let it be known by beginning to actively mock them on-air.

Please, I’m Cooking

There’ve been years of jokes, including a recurring Saturday Night Live sketch, about what The Today Show hosted by Kathie Lee Gifford and Hoda Kotb was like four hours into its broadcast. So people must’ve been deep enough in the weeds of the show to spot a certain moment that went viral.

Please, I’m Cooking

During an appearance on the show, celebrity chef Sam the Cooking Guy became quite annoyed with the two hosts’ interruptions and lost it on them. Realizing quickly that he lost his cool, he tried to move on but the atmosphere remained awkward.

This Really Isn’t The Time

During a 2007 episode of Real Time With Bill Maher, United States Representative Sheila Jackson Lee began to be heckled by an audience member. Their reason for doing so was to shout out conspiracy theories about 9/11 being a cover-up.

This Really Isn’t The Time

Host Bill Maher acted quickly and ran into the audience himself to have the audience member thrown out. Remarkably, the full moment was kept in the broadcast, as everyone was aware it made for good television.

Trust The Teleprompter

How much should a news anchor be allowed to just, well, wing it? An on-air incident from 2009 proves that sometimes the material they’re given puts them in a bit of a corner.

Trust The Teleprompter

The anchor was Drew Smith of SNN News 6 in Sarasota, Florida, who when provided with a poorly worded transcript to read on-air, made it very clear that he was upset. His rant even included a ding at the likely unpaid intern who was responsible for it.

America hasn’t produced as many soccer stars as Europe, but that doesn’t mean the ones from there can’t contain bold personalities. An example would be Alexi Lalas, who in his post-soccer career served as an on-air host for Fox Sports.

While doing commentary for a game between the Seattle Sounders and the LA Galaxy, Lalas began to sound off about the general state of American soccer, in particular the national men’s team. Some of his key choice of words included “underperforming, tattooed millionaires”.

Dice Rules

Many people consider vulgar comedian Andrew Dice Clay a relic of the 1980s, but he’ll be sure to not let you off if you dare to say that to his face. This happened during a CNN interview years after the Dice Man’s heyday, where the host told him “You used to be a headliner”.

Dice Rules

Known for his brash insult comic stylings, Dice made sure to quickly push back, reiterating that he still headlines while also dropping f-words at the host. You probably shouldn’t try to get on the wrong side of a comedian known for his harsher side.

Tabloid Culture

She’s mostly relegated to DJ events and the odd bit of millennial nostalgia, but you might remember how much of a constant headline topic heiress and socialite Paris Hilton was back in the 2000s. A particular moment of media frenzy was in 2007 during her brief trip to jail over a drunk driving incident.

Tabloid Culture

The Paris Hilton media frenzy of that point in time resulted in some active frustration on the part of the people forced to cover it, like MSNBC host Mika Brzezinski. At one point on-air, she dramatically tried lighting her papers on fire and exclaiming “I’m done with the Paris Hilton story!”

Four Letter Words

Saying the f-word on live network television always results in a considerable fine thanks to the FCC—and that goes for more than just Saturday Night Live cast members accidentally dropping it while getting too into character.

Four Letter Words

During a news broadcast on WNBC, the anchor Sue Simmons, given the confidence of perhaps being off-screen, let out an f-word on air. Apparently, her co-host Chuck Scarborough had inspired the angry response.

Had Enough Of This

Movie stars appearing as guests on Real Time With Bill Maher is not an uncommon sight, but we know one who won’t be quick to return to the show. During a 2014 appearance, Ben Affleck became visibly and audibly angry at host Bill Maher as well as fellow guest Sam Harris.

Had Enough Of This

While Maher and Harris were parroting an Islamophobic argument, Affleck became increasingly flustered by the racist talking points. Pushing back, the movie star seemed genuinely angry in a way many don’t let themselves be in public.

This Is The Remix To Indignation

R Kelly, it goes without saying, definitely had it a long time coming. The extent of his nefarious doings had been an open secret, but he still seemed surprised when having to confront them during a CBS This Morning interview in 2019.

With the documentary Surviving R Kelly out in the open, the walls were closing in on the performer, who began to scream and cry in defense of himself. It didn’t do much in the way of swaying public opinion towards thinking he was innocent.

The View From Here

Say what you will about The View, but they do welcome different *view*points on the show—just look at Fox News anchor Bill O’Reilly making a 2010 appearance to promote a book. However, when the conversation turned to the hot news item of a mosque being built near Ground Zero, things got a little too heated.

The View From Here

Things fell apart when O’Reilly claimed, without having the facts to back it up, that 70% of Americans didn’t want the mosque built. This caused Whoopi Goldberg to swear at him on-air, and ended with her and co-host Joy Behar walking off the set.

I Miss The Old Kanye

He probably causes more of a stir today, but we’ve got to look back at one of rapper Kanye West’s first public outbursts. You may remember what happened while he was standing next to Austin Powers star Mike Meyers during a Hurricane Katrina benefit concert.

I Miss The Old Kanye

The words “George Bush doesn’t care about Black people” sent a buzz throughout America. Certainly, Mike Meyer's stunned reaction is part of what makes the clip so classic.

Mike Tyson Punch Out

Boxer and public personality Mike Tyson is, for a number of reasons, a deeply intimidating guy. If you need proof, just look at an interview from 2014 on Toronto’s CP24 news channel.

Mike Tyson Punch Out

CP24 host Nathan Downer seemed to make the wrong call when asking Tyson if meeting the city’s mayor Rob Ford amid an election wasn’t the right thing to do considering the boxer’s past legal troubles. This didn’t please Tyson, who went about ranting and calling the host all kinds of bad words.

Remember Blago?

Disgraced Illinois Governor Rod Blagojevich racked up headlines in 2008 for corruption charges and allegedly trying to sell vacated Senator Barack Obama’s seat following his Presidential victory. Despite becoming a joke, that didn’t prevent Blagojevich from making a bevy of public appearances after having his sentence commuted by President Trump in 2020.

Remember Blago?

During an Anderson Cooper interview in 2020, Blagojevich started to test the CNN host’s patience with several ridiculous claims. The straw that broke the camel’s back, and caused Cooper to swear on air, was Blagojevich comparing himself to Nelson Mandela
